After spending so much time painting the carousel horses, I thought it would be fun to find a real horse in a similar pose and paint it. Scrolling through my State Fair photo archives, I found a shot of this giant fellow. Ah, yes, I remember him. He was magnificent, prancing, straining against the bit, almost bursting out of his skin. I shoved his nose right up against the left margin of the composition, which is usually a no-no, but in this case I did it to show his size and his eagerness to move forward.
I wish I could include sound effects in a painting. The sound these big guys make when they walk on pavement is amazing.
